Abstract

Doctor Djaja Surya Atmadja is an expert witness for the defendant who appears in the documentary “Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso.” However, Doctor Djaja's explanation of the medical facts surrounding Mirna Salihin's death was not fully accepted by viewers due to a misperception of Doctor Djaja's position. Therefore, this study aims to describe how viewers interpret Doctor Djaja's representation as a medical authority in the documentary Ice Cold. The research methods used are descriptive qualitative, Stuart Hall's audience reception analysis, and in-depth interviews with six informants using purposive sampling techniques. The results of the study describe that five informants were in the position of dominant hegemonic, because they accepted and acknowledged that the documentary represented Doctor Djaja as a medical authority. Meanwhile, one informant was in the position of opposition, because he considered that the documentary only focused on explaining Doctor Djaja's controversial character in the public eye.
