Generative AI Policy
Nation State: Journal of International Studies adopts this Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) Policy to uphold academic integrity, originality, and the quality of scholarly publications. The journal allows limited use of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or similar applications solely for purposes including language editing, stylistic improvement, grammar correction, and drafting preliminary summaries. Such use must not substitute for the authors’ own intellectual input.
The use of generative AI to create scientific material, develop legal reasoning, formulate academic arguments, produce citations or references, fabricate data or findings, alter research outcomes, or generate content that authors cannot fully justify is strictly forbidden. Violations of this rule may lead to rejection of the manuscript or retraction of a published article.
Authors who utilize AI for technical or linguistic support must clearly disclose this in the Cover Letter or Author’s Originality Statement section through an appropriate statement. Failure to do so constitutes a breach of publication ethics. Authors remain entirely responsible for the originality of their work, the accuracy and authenticity of data and references, the soundness of their analyses, and compliance with ethical standards. AI tools cannot be credited as authors or contributors.
To preserve confidentiality, reviewers and editors are not permitted to upload manuscripts to publicly accessible AI platforms during the review process. They may only use AI tools for language assessment or clarity enhancement without submitting manuscript content to public systems. To enforce this policy, Nation State: Journal of International Studies may utilize AI-detection software as part of its evaluation procedures. Any breach of this policy may result in manuscript rejection, article withdrawal, or temporary or permanent bans on future submissions.
